Keeping Your 3 Year Old Busy

feature1

I've been working from home since May 1st. Two and a half months down and I've finally realized that I'm never going to get a darn thing done with a three year old boy running this household. My design business has required  at least five hours of work a day. That's five hours of time spent sitting at my computer in the back office. Five hours spent away from my son's favorite playing ground- our living room. My day was spent running from the office to the living room for emergency behind-the-couch-superhero-extractions and then back to the office to open and read half an email only to be beckoned to the bathroom for wipe inspection and then back to the computer just to realize... I have to pee. I couldn't keep these circus tricks up and maintain my sanity for one more day. No longer would I spend nine hours a day fighting between work and play. After talking it over with my husband, I decided we had to find some extra money … [Read more...]

Sweet Pickles and Hot Dogs

pickles

That's all I want right now! And I don't even like hot dogs. Because I'm pregnant! We are so happy and excited and nervous and giddy over this blessing we've been given! Most of my family and friends didn't even know just how long we've been trying to add another bundle of baby. Topher and I started talking about taking the plunge for #2 over a year ago. Since it's taken us so long, it's only fair to say that God knew we weren't ready yet. Maybe we needed more time with just Mason. Maybe we needed more time for our marriage. Maybe I was meant to have to wait for something because we all know I have no patience whatsoever. how far along are you? 8 weeks and 4 days. According to The Bump, baby is the size of a raspberry. That's so tiny! The little bit has just started forming taste buds so it's about time to instill his or her love for bread just like mommy. We have our second appointment tomorrow and get our first … [Read more...]

A Serious Case of the Book Fever

hunger games

I have a fever. And the only prescription is more book lovin'! I love everything about books. The sci-fi, fantasy, young adult and bestseller fiction. Not to mention my secret affair with cheesy romance novels. I can't help myself! I just finished these three books and I'm already itching for some more.   I devoured The Hunger Games in two days, Fifty Shades took me about the same. City of Bones has been work in progress for me- not sure if I'm going to continue with the trilogy, though. It was just a little too juvenile for my taste. Speaking of juvenile, this would be a perfect time to discuss Fifty Shades of Grey. This is the book everyone's talking about. This is the steamy "mommy porn" novel has jumped to the top of the bestseller lists so I had to get a copy to see what it was about. After all... I'm not the type to turn down a steamy novel. *wink I went into this story expecting to be blown away … [Read more...]

One pound at a time

feature_grapes

Seven pounds, two ounces. That's all I've lost. It's hard not to be just a little bummed about it. But, why beat myself up over it? That's seven pounds I didn't have before. That's seven pounds in the RIGHT direction. It may not be as much and as fast as others, but I have to quit beating myself up about not being the best at it. This is hard. You would think it is easy. Faced with two choices I have proven unable to take the healthy option. I will rationalize the hell out of every situation and possible outcome to eventually get what I want. And that's the bread. Or the sugar. Or the butter. But, I am committing to keeping my attitude positive. It's difficult when I'm not keeping up with everyone else. Or I watch as others triumph only to see myself fail week after week. That type of comparison has no room in my head and I'm going to continue to remind myself that it's one step at a time. One pound at a time. It … [Read more...]

Spring Time Already

feature

March in Oklahoma and we have been wearing short sleeves and playing at the park! Patience has never been one of my greatest virtues. It takes just about everything in me not to run out to Lowe's and spend my entire paycheck on bright and joyful flowers for my flower bed. Mason has loved the early warm air. He's older now {almost three, oh gosh!} and his confidence shines on the playground. He beckons the other kids to follow him along the bridges and barrels down the tube slides head first. I am left squawking behind him like a mother hen when really I'm just in the dust. It amazes me that he can monkey crawl up that ladder and throw himself down the big kid slide before I can even waddle under the equipment to be there to catch him. No injuries yet. No tumbles or band-aids. Just smiles. I love spring time already. … [Read more...]
